Modern Wellbeing: Infographic Mapping Impacts on Mind, Body, Environment, and Communities

The following infographic is a map we’ve developed to illustrate how technology is impacting our minds, bodies, communities and physical spaces around us.

Technology is impacting every aspect of our lives. For years now we’ve been witnessing its subtle, but profound push in media, communications, commerce, and the transportation space. But its next frontier is our very wellbeing: our bodies, minds, the physical space around us, and into our communities.

Kaleido Insights is tracking this ascending trend. And it goes way beyond wearables! We’ve analyzed dozens of modalities related to health– physical, mental, social, and environmental.  We’ve developed an infographic to summarize the many technologies that are shifting how we adapt and manage our wellbeing (see below, click to download hi-resolution version).

We’ve interviewed several dozen start-ups, large companies, and individuals to find out how they’re integrating. We track how multiple technologies are converging and influencing behaviors, such as personal devices using gamification and social media tactics to drive community support. Rising healthcare costs, increased screentime, the ‘consumerization of the enterprise’ have all been accompanied by a parallel explosion in corporate wellness programs.

Indeed integrating technology into all aspects of our wellbeing has concerning implications too. We’re using technology to combat issues that have, in part, been brought on by technology. From our smartphone “addictions” to the very metrics and business models designed to grab our attention every day, the consequences (health, ethical political, and otherwise) are just starting to become clear.

As the boundaries between human and machine only continue to blur, our wellbeing (whether eroded or enhanced by technology) becomes a central focus.
